About 25% of the world’s people live in societies where husbands can have more than one wife. He became rich by getting wealth from his wives , while they maintained only little economic independence. The husband also played a relatively minor role in family life.
In many cases, when a man already has one or more wives /polygamist/ , a potential ‘’new’’ wife is introduced into the family unit. Before she officially becomes a wife, she has to learn her future husband’s way of living: the food he likes, how to please him …She also has to prove that she can fit in with the rest of the family! Then when the trial period is over, the marriage ceremony takes place.
